Former Federal Court judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram, who is leading the prosecution team, said Shafee's case has been vacated to make way for Najib's ongoing corruption trials involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad and SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.
On June 27, 2019, the High Court fixed 16 days from March 9 to 13, March 30 to April 2, May 12 to 14 and May 18 to 21 for the trial. He allegedly received a cheque for RM4.3mil on Sept 13, 2013 and another for RM5.2mil on Feb 17, 2014.The charges, under Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, carry a fine not exceeding RM5mil or up to five years’ jail or both upon conviction.
