Following a trial at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Sean Ó Donnabháin directed that the jury find Sionad Jones not guilty of criminal damage of a Coillte forest near her home in Maughnaclea, Kealkill, Co Cork.
After the jury delivered their verdict and were excused from further service, Judge Ó Donnabháin said Ms Jones described herself as a "conscientious protector" but she had a "chainsaw in one hand and a burning log in the other". Sentencing on the charge of dishonestly appropriating felled spruce wood, to the value of €500, was adjourned until 30 October next.
Coillte official Donal Murphy said he was made aware in 2018 of chain-saw activity in a Coillte-owned forest outside Kealkill.Garda Coffey said that, a short time later, he saw a green Toyota Starlet car approaching from the forest and, when it stopped, Ms Jones got out.Garda Coffey said Ms Jones confirmed at the scene that she had been felling spruce in the forest.
She was not convicted of this bullying charge. Stop trying to twist the truth for your millionaires agenda.
Banlaoch, Gwrones.
are coillte going to 'kill' the native trees she planted in their place?
She's 61, not old. Describing her a grandmother seems to ameliorate the offense.
Who holding the state to account for all the forest they've cleared over the years?
She's obviously not a wind farm developer so.
