MANILA - Lawmakers and legal experts on Wednesday lauded Maguindanao massacre presiding Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes for "restoring" the public's faith in the Philippine justice system, after convicting members of the once-influential Ampatuan clan for the carnage.
The Maguindanao massacre happened in 2009, when the Ampatuan family who were allied with then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ruled the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Solis-Reyes took on the responsibility and refused offers to have 10 police escorts while handling the high-profile carnage. "Despite the pressure, she remained firm and fair and exercised her duties the best as she could," he said.
No! We are just happy that in a world full of Teresita de Castro, there is a Jocelyn Solis Reyes.
Consistency, impartiality, & firmness will but not just the verdict of this case. Plunderer Imelda Marcos, an ally of Digong, has yet to spend a day in jail for her conviction. She was absent when her verdict was read. Justice system in this country is most certainly selective.
