ANALYSIS: Assange is in court twice this week. This is what's at stake

Politicians from both sides of politics have expressed their concerns about the possibility of him being extradited to the US on charges that would confine him to jail for the rest of his life.As Assange's case proceeds, it is likely support for him will build. In the process, this will pressure the Australian Government to do more to persuade the Americans to back off.

Australian journalism has been conflicted over the degree to which Assange should be supported, with arguments for and against. Rusbridger defends Assange against attempts to extradite him on grounds that"whatever Assange got up to in 2010-11, it was not espionage".

You’re a public broadcaster abc - you have a responsibility to print accurate material only.

Ask tonywalker1 to correct - what can only be described as deliberate - errors in this article if he wants it circulated. Others are getting hundreds, but we don’t need bad publicity for Julian any more. There is too much quality material about.

That piece contains several errors, and repeats smears/slanders of Assange that have been rebutted many times. The first paragraph and a half should have alerted you to fact-check. Just because it was published first elsewhere doesn't absolve ABC of its editorial responsibility.

Australia`s lack of enthusiasm for becoming more involved in the interests of one of its citizens overseas speaks volumes as to the competency of the incumbents of DFAT.... ...notwithstanding political interference.
