PETALING JAYA: The son of S Samy Vellu is seeking a declaration from the High Court that the former MIC strongman is not mentally fit to defend himself in the wake of two legal cases brought against him.
Vell Paari said his father Samy, who was best known for his long tenure as the works minister during Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s first stint as prime minister, had been diagnosed with dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease two years ago. “Nonetheless, I held off filing the application until now. The action filed against my father has to be defended and I have to be properly authorised by the courts,” he said in a statement today.“Consequently, he needs to be assisted in managing his personal and financial affairs,” he said, adding that he had been authorised to do so following his father’s diagnosis.
