President Donald Trump's allies want to hear from Hunter Biden and Rep. Adam Schiff in a potential impeachment trial.

Republicans will seek to craft rules governing a potential impeachment trial of President Donald Trump on their own if they can’t reach an agreement on guidelines with Democrats, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday.

“There is no answer at this point” to such questions, McConnell told reporters at his weekly press conference at the Capitol. In advance of a Trump impeachment trial, some Republican lawmakers and other allies of the president have expressed a desire to see former Vice President Joe Biden and perhaps his son Hunter Biden testify.

Sen. Thom Tillis said Schiff would be “one of my favorites” on a list of possible impeachment witnesses. Republicans have a slim hold on the upper chamber, 53-47, meaning they’d need nearly all their members to sign off on either a rules package or individual witness testimony.

Opinion | Impeachment is marching through the House — but a Senate trial could get messyThe Constitution, for all of its moments of genius, provides certain elected officials with much discretion in one of its most solemn duties. Will that discretion be abused? THINK Could? It will be messy. THINK If the senate decided to pardon realDonaldTrump’s crimes, then they will face the public opinion and they will be voted out one by one. It’s really that simple. You are warned GOP THINK With Mitch EVERYTHING is messy.
