Margaret Court has accepted an invitation from Tennis Australia to attend January’s Australian Open and celebrate the 50th anniversary of her grand slam triumph, but the governing body has again stressed it disagrees with her personal views about homosexuality and gay marriage.
Tennis Australia has now come to a position where it believes it can celebrate Court’s 1970 grand slam achievement appropriately.‘‘To mark this historic occasion, Margaret Court, along with her family and friends, has been invited to Australian Open 2020 as a special guest, and to participate in a significant program of events throughout the tournament,’’ Tennis Australia said in a statement.
‘‘As often stated, Tennis Australia does not agree with Margaret’s personal views, which have demeaned and hurt many in our community over a number of years. They do not align with our values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
SMHsport Shame on Tennis Australia for the lecturer which accompanied the invitation to celebrate MC's anniversary. So weak, she is entitled to her views however unpalatable to others. All so scared of the bullying left.
SMHsport It’s not her personal views it’s the Bibles views .. now that we have moved away from Judeo Christian values and the bible and 10 commandments the world is in free fall .. 🙄
SMHsport Tennis Australia should stick to their knitting. They're the last people to know about ethics & gender matters. Killing someone is wrong; but having an alternative view on gay marriage is just that: an alternative view. 40 yrs ago Court's view was overwhelmingly mainstream.
christopherneff SMHsport When she comes out to receive her award the only honourable thing to do will be to turn around TurnAround
SMHsport Who cares! She’s got an opinion, who gives a flying fuck?!
SMHsport Boycott that then.
