A lawyer-congressman is batting for the creation of a national policy for the prevention of teenage pregnancy, which has become a major problem in the country.

Rizal 2nd district Rep. Fidel Nograles justified the filing of House Bill No.5516 by saying that the Philippines has been setting record-high teenage pregnancy numbers in Southeast Asia.

“For those who are already poor, going back to school is no longer an option and accelerating to employment becomes a more viable alternative,” lamented the neophyte solon. According to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, an estimated 538 new-born babies are born to Filipino teenage mothers every single day.
