Transport Minister Marc Garneau, asked if the government would introduce back-to-work legislation, said they don’t believe that would be the fastest way to end it

Federal ministers expressed faith in the collective bargaining process and would not comment on the possibility of back to work legislation, as a national railway strike continued into its third day on Thursday.

Transport Minister Marc Garneau said the government is aware of the enormous impact the strike is having. Garneau was asked repeatedly if his government was prepared to introduce back-to-work legislation and said they don’t believe that would be the fastest way to end this strike. On Thursday, CN suggested the dispute should go to binding arbitration and invited the union to agree to that idea.
