Nine months after the banking royal commission wrapped up, Terry McMaster, the sole director of Dover Financial Services, becomes the first witness to face court and be convicted.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has won its first case arising out of the banking and financial services royal commission.

ASIC alleged Dover imposed a misleadingly titled"client protection policy" on its clients, which in fact offered greater protection to the firm itself. Mr McMaster memorably ended his evidence to the royal commission abruptly in April 2018, collapsing in the witness box and leaving on an ambulance stretcher.

Justice O'Brien did not impose a penalty. He’s been a very naughty boy. Why they use the term Justice in these appointments is beyond me.
