Sen. Marco Rubio said he believes President Trump will sign the Hong Kong rights legislation. “I think China needs to stop interfering in the internal affairs of the United States because our treatment of Hong Kong is an internal matter.”

which already received unanimous Senate approval, by a 471-1 margin. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., was the lone dissenter. Formally called the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, the bill aims to protect anti-government protesters in Hong Kong from heavy-handed Chinese interference. It's now up to Trump on whether to sign it into law.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said Beijing "condemns and firmly opposes" the human rights bill, which comes at a time of economic and trade tensions between the U.S. and China. Beijing and Washington have remained locked in an escalating trade war for well over a year, with each side placing tariffs on billions of dollars' of each others' goods.
