KUCHING: A motion to reiterate the Sarawak Legislative Assembly's protest against the relocation of the Sabah and Sarawak High Court registry from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu has been rejected on technical grounds.

Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How requested leave on Wednesday to move the motion seeking a resolution that the House reaffirm its decision against the relocation to"protect the sanctity" of the Federal Constitution and safeguard Sarawak's"inviolable constitutional rights".

Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar disallowed the motion because he received it on Tuesday evening , less than 24 hours before the start of today's sitting as required under Standing Order 15."Much as I would like to have it debated, because of the constraint that it requires 24 hours, I regret that I have to disallow the motion," he said.

The April 30 motion urged the state government to stand firm against the relocation of the Sabah and Sarawak High Court registry as the decision was made without consulting the Chief Minister, in contradiction to Article 121 of the Federal Constitution.
