Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana says he is personally not inclined to recommend another extension of martial law in Mindanao.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Monday said he is personally not inclined to recommend another extension of martial law in Mindanao.

[Translation: If it were up to me, I will not recommend another extension. It has been in place for too long. We can do our jobs without it.] Lorenzana said military rule would no longer be necessary if the Congress passes the amended Human Security Act, which will allow warrantless detention of terror suspects to up to one month.

Despite his opinion, he said they will still evaluate the recommendations of the Armed Forces and the Philippine National Police.
