Tennis Australia has struck a conciliatory tone towards Margaret Court, with president Jayne Hrdlicka welcoming her back to the tennis family and insisting there were no plans to rename Margaret Court Arena

.

Hrdlicka, speaking to reporters in Perth prior to a Tennis Australia board meeting where controversy surrounding Court is expected to dominate discussion, sought to ring fence this weekend’s Fed Cup final from the latest imbroglio involving Australia’s greatest ever player.Describing a push to strip Court’s name from the stadium due to her outspoken opposition to homosexuality and same-sex marriage as "much ado about nothing," Hrdlicka said a name change was not on her board’s agenda.

"Margaret is here this week to support the team, really looking forward to her being part of the family," the Tennis Australia president said.Asked whether her board had given any consideration to renaming Margaret Court Arena, Hrdlicka said: "It’s not on the board’s agenda. It’s never been on the board’s agenda and there’s much ado about nothing.

Tennis Australia is torn over how to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Court’s greatest career achievement — her 1970 grand slam when she won all four major singles titles in a calendar year — at next year's Australian Open.Court this week warned Tennis Australia that unless it was planning to honour her achievement in the same way it feted Rod Laver’s last year for the 50th anniversary of his grand slam, she would not return to Melbourne Park.

She urged Tennis Australia to "sit and talk with me" and said the rest of the country needed to grow up.

Leave well alone. It is called freedom of speech, freedom of association, and freedom to express a different opinion. You LGBTI types need a lesson in democracy. You have exceeded your influence and need to be reigned in.

Should it be named Margaret Court Court?

She's entitled to a view on same sex union - it shouldn't interfere with her status as a tennis star and legend We have to separate politics from sport.

I hope that means her outstanding record will be openly recognised during the AustralianOpen Tennis 2020 and beyond. What her thoughts are on any topic should not mean Aussies recognise her skills and talents. The area will always carry her name!

The poor old dear thinks Tennis Australia is not being inclusive towards her. Works both ways.

If you want to see what diversity looks like go and have a look at TennisAustralia 's board and executive team.

She is elderly, if you must change the name after she is gone, Margaret isn't the only one who is being single and bloody minded here.

Why not change name to gays go to hell arena! Same thing

The court should be renamed

Don’t you wish she would learn how to read the bible properly

great athlete - easily taken in by nonsense

Greywings

All hail the bigot.

FFS. Double fault Tennis Australia

FFS

mistake she should not be welcomed & renamemargaretcourtarena

Like Folau, Court is a wonderful sportsperson, but a terrible human. Homophobic and, as I recall, a supporter of the South African Apartheid Regime.

Go away

It’s a hard no from me. Awful woman

Awwwww....oucccch that is going to set of the perpetually enraged!

Yuck

The world has gone mad. Australians fete other religions and all kinds of weird views - but Christianity now in the bad books. How quickly the ALMIGHTY has fallen. Tolerance and inclusivity preached by the Left is selective and therefore NOT inclusive.

“Much ado about nothing”. Unless you are gay, trans or black.

Put her in the bin with Israel Folou

She is an icon for God's sake

Tennis Australia will 'recognise but not celebrate' Margaret Court anniversaryTennis Australia will 'recognise but not celebrate' Margaret Court anniversary | Melbchief scottspits Melbchief scottspits Yeah, she played superb tennis. Nah, she's a self-centred crackpot. Melbchief scottspits Madness. Madness. Some see those who are not heterosexual as actually disabled. And before 1970 this was the view of the general public. In the 1970s the last thing gays wanted was marriage. How the worm turns. Virtue signallers? Money and power hungry officials? Yes. Melbchief scottspits Not for me as Margaret Court is a bigot and promotes division. Yes, MC was a great tennis player - I find her views repulsive.
