BANGKOK (Bernama): Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has criticised the move by a certain country to impose economic sanctions on another country, saying the move is against the law.

He said applying sanctions not only hurts the country involved but also negatively impacts other countries that trade with the country sanctioned.

He noted that although the issue of sanctions was not mentioned at the summit, it had also affected other countries. "So under what law? They talk so much about rule of law; they talk so much about rule-based trade but the very people that talk about this or invented this idea are the same people not adhering to their own principles," he said.

Earlier this week, Dr Mahathir had said Malaysia was pressured by certain quarters to close bank accounts of Iranian individuals and companies in Malaysia due to the sanction on Iran.

USA must stop bullying other countries.

The UN do only what is 'right' for all humanity. Sanctions is only imposed on countries that (do as they pleases) with nuclear threat......

🇲🇾Wow....congratulations PM Dr.Mahathir chedetofficial for standing up against the US on the threat of sanctions. In the same breath why didn't you stand up for the ratification of ICERD, Rome Statute, ASEAN Human Rights Charter and UN Convention against Torture (UNCAT)❓

Pretty sure so is banning a nation from participating in an international sports event...

Let's stand up for what is right Tun M. People victimised by them are relying on the world. Better than living a lie.

Now you realised how big India is ? Panic now ?

Panic now

what about not ratifying ICERD and Rome Statute? What about the racism back home?
