Department of Justice sues Walmart on behalf of a Navy reservist who says the retail giant didn't hire her because of her upcoming reserve duties.

The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Walmart on behalf of a Navy reservist who says the retail giant didn't hire her because of her upcoming naval reserve duties.

“Service members risk their lives to protect all of us. They deserve our full support, and the law does not permit employers to use military service as a reason to deny service members jobs and other employment opportunities,” assistant attorney general Eric Dreiband of the Civil Rights Division at the DOJ said in a statement.

Hunger called back the Walmart personnel coordinator and says she received confirmation that"Walmart was not hiring her because of her two-week annual Navy Reserve training," according to the complaint. After telling the coordinator that this was in violation of her USERRA rights, the complaint alleges the coordinator"responded that she did not know what the USERRA was."

Will be interesting to see the ruling on this one

If all Vets boycott Walmart for a month Walmart would change their hiring practices.

You mean DOJ who refuse to investigate hate crimes, human rights violations? But quick to pursue vendettas & conspiracy theories & coverup crimes?

I mean from Walmarts point of view holiday rush is coming up so I could understand that..but laws are in place to encourage people to serve our country without fear of losing their main job

Walmart! Shame on U! When many of those Vets get their checks Tomorrow they will many of those dollars in your stores! Shame on U Walmart! U owe the Vets an apology!

Why don't they just send in Jethro Leroy Gibbs? Clearly, his team has jurisdiction.

I'm not sure that's a valid legal argument.

Federal laws protects National Gaurd and Military reservist. Curious to hear Walmarts excuse.

Good grief.

Seems kind of hard to prove

I agree with walmart, its unacceptable to have an employee with poor attendance. Your either committed to your employer or your not. The government is not worth serving in the first place as they dont serve the citizens.

Well if you are going to be away for a while then you may not get the job. They want people who will be there
