Two federal judges in a Washington courthouse that stands between the US Capitol and the White House will consider on Thursday afternoon whether they can force witnesses close to President Trump to testify in the House's impeachment inquiry.

As the House votes on its rules for the impeachment effort, the back-to-back hearings could be the deciding factor in how much evidence Democrats are able to gather. The first, about former White House counsel Don McGahn's refusal to testify this spring, will be a meaty, legally complicated argument about executive privilege that could last hours.

He also described an argument pushed by the White House counsel's office and by an appellate judge in a recent dissent that the current House impeachment probe isn't legitimate. That second piece may be key in Kupperman's case. Past courts -- including the Supreme Court during the Nixon years -- have repeatedly held that in an impeachment proceeding, White House claims of immunity wash away, and congressional investigators get what they seek.

I hope the discharge their duties accordingly and not chicken out.

wouldnt be surprised if there's a rash of suicides

Can they also force the witnesses to answer the Republicans' questions that Adam Schifty is telling them NOT to answer?!

Not a chance in hell and you know it. Moving on

I wish you all would hammer down the conversation that if Trump wants to go after corruption, he should release his tax returns and be transparent about all his family members in his administration and their taxes. I mean if you want to fight corruption! gothere

I hope their families are safe, you never know what a dictator would do to keep himself in power.

Why isn't CNN reporting this?

I don't understand why the judges have to consider whether 'they can force' witnesses close to the illigetimate pres to testify. What does the law say about complying with subpoenas? Then do what the law says do if you don't comply.

Politics realDonaldTrump HillaryClinton SpeakerPelosi AdamSchiff If you do your reading you know they will protect the office not the man...If they did their reading that is...the grey area is how they define protecting. Any whiff of protecting Trump means one thing

They need to protect our country not trump.
