The court was told the young boy's parents disagreed about what further treatment the boy should have. His mother wanted him to have "curative" treatment while his father wanted to have "palliative" treatment.
He has also undergone surgery and the next phase of treatment would involve high dose chemotherapy. An expert from Great Ormond Street hospital for children in London, said the proposed further treatment held out a "realistic possibility of cure" although the child's prognosis is still predicted to be poor.
During the court proceedings the father agreed in the witness box to allow the curative treatment to take place but not until after Christmas. The boy's doctor told the court that the tumour risked becoming active again and becoming extremely difficult to control. The judge said he found the mother to be balanced and rational and said she strongly supported the immediate commencement of the treatment in the hope of prolonging her child's life.
The judge said the man believed the boy would not benefit from further chemotherapy and was not prepared to try it.
Aren’t all forms of cancer serious?
if this treatment is just going to cause this child even more pain and won't do him much good in the long term than why keep doing it , high dose chemotherapy for f--k sake no child should be put through that especially if it's not going to do much good what's the point
So sad.
