THIS is an open letter to the Education Ministry. Firstly, it’s sad that I have to resort to writing to the newspaper to get the attention of policy makers. I hope the powers that be will get down to the ground and understand the situation for themselves instead of just relying on bureaucrats who are doing very little to improve the situation.
I am also aware that some kindergarten operators bypass this ruling by registering their operations as “enrichment centres”. Technically then, are they kindergartens or not? And should they not be under the purview of the Education Ministry since they offer programmes for children aged three to six years?
The sad fact is that many of the current teachers cannot afford the money or time to pursue the diploma. I have even offered some of my teachers partial scholarships but they declined as they have families to look after.
