PETALING JAYA: Attorney General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas should explain why he ordered a sexual abuse case in Perak to be dropped months after the Magistrate's Court there recognised that the incident took place, says MCA central committee member Tan Quin Er.

She said Thomas' intervention had impacted the credibility and independence of the Attorney General and the Attorney General's Chambers , and brought the AGC into disrepute.

"Why did he utilise the discretionary power given to him? This makes a mockery of the Magistrate's Court's findings, in addition to the criminal investigations by the police and efforts by public prosecutors. She added that the victim was still undergoing psychiatric treatment at Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan to overcome the traumatic experience.

On Monday, Magistrate Mohammad Afifi Mohammad Deen dismissed an application to call a deputy public prosecutor to explain why the investigation paper into the sexual abuse was closed with no suspects identified.
