Thirty-seven-year-old Kelechukwu Chukwuanugo put up the defence on Tuesday under cross-examination by the Lagos State Prosecutor Tunde Sunmonu, adding that he did not know she would die.Chukwuanugo did tell the court that he withdrew N120,000 from the deceased’s account and fled to Cote d’Ivoire.He said the defendant committed the alleged offence on July 19, 2014, at 2pm at Plot 34, Green Estate, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
“I was running for my life, there was nothing I could do for her when I noticed she was not moving after falling. I did not know she will die; we were dragging her phone, she slipped and fell on the floor,” Chukwuanugo narrated. He also said that the police refused to produce the defendant’s international passport, drivers’ licence and the ATM card seized from him.
