Former Felda Investment Corporation CEO says its board chaired by Isa Samad had decided against buying Kuching hotel on three occasions. FMTNews NajibRazak IsaSamad

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Najib Razak had urged Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd to review its decision not to purchase a hotel in Kuching two weeks after the decision was made, the High Court heard today.

The court had earlier been told that Felda came under the purview of the Prime Minister’s Department and Najib appointed Isa as Felda chairman. He said he informed Isa on April 18, 2014 that the hotel owner, Syarikat Gegasan Abadi Properties Sdn Bhd, had offered a new price of RM165 million and a possible discount of RM5 million.Zaid said he met three FIC directors – Omar Salim, Ehsannudin Harun Narrashid and Faizoull Ahmad – before the board meeting scheduled on April 29, 2014.

“Isa told me an additional RM7 million can be paid as we have to take into account the goodwill earned by the hotel, and RM160 million is justified,” he said. “It was a majority decision to purchase the hotel at RM160 million but I was against it because I was the one who suggested RM153 million earlier,” he said, adding that the decision was not recorded.Zaid said Isa told the board members that the hotel purchase, which exceeded the RM100 million mandate, did not need to be tabled before the Felda board.
