A man who helped plan a terror attack in Federation Square is has intellectual limitations, was a follower and did not realise the extent of the plot led by his brother, a court hears.

A 24-year-old terror plotter has been threatened and bullied in prison, the Supreme Court has heard, as lawyers for"childish and childlike" Hamza Abbas sought sympathy from the sentencing judge.

They had also conducted reconnaissance in and around Melbourne's Federation Square, where the prosecution said they wanted to carry out an attack at Christmas time in order to maximise casualties.

All violent religious and political extremists are intellectually impaired it is just a question of degree.

So what? Some lawyers come up with the most preposterous excuses for their clients. Lawyer for alleged criminal on the Gold Coast who punched a guy (who has now died) claims his client didn't mean to hurt him! Then why the fcuk was he punching him? DUH!

Yesterday's article on attempted terrorism didn't have the same tone as this piece. It was more accusatory. But he was a white guy so that makes his crime so much worse I guess
