A man has been charged over an alleged confrontation with police at a petrol station north of Sydney that left two officers with stab wounds.

NSW Police alleged the man had been involved in a road rage incident about 1pm yesterday at the intersection of The Boulevarde and Carey Street in Toronto, near Lake Macquarie, before he used a knife to slash the tyre of a vehicle. After authorities were alerted, it is alleged the two officers confronted the man while he was armed with two knives at a Toronto petrol station.
