A former judge is in a "state of warfare" with his corporate lawyer neighbour about the repairs and strata conversion in the Point Piper apartment block they both occupy.
The court heard the Goldings occupy two apartments and owned a 54 per cent stake in the company that administered the block of four, while the O'Ryans live in one apartment in the building with water views, situated in one of Australia's most expensive suburbs. Last month he ordered the company to be wound down and placed into the hands of court-appointed liquidators, twice delaying that course of action to allow the parties more time to break their deadlock, which they failed to do.
Justice Hammerschlag said a liquidator would have the power to carry out necessary repairs to a building "falling into dilapidation".Justice Hammerschlag said this week that the fire safety features of the building needed to be upgraded and that Goldings were also frustrating the repair of the leaking roof, affecting the O'Ryans, who live on the top level of the building.
