Analysis | Boris Johnson has lost every battle, but thinks he can win the war | nickdmiller

The Supreme Court was polite but devastating.

Social media made far too much of the spider brooch on the lapel of Lady Hale as she laid down the judgement of the Supreme Court.Others recalled the classic Spiderman line, “with great power comes great responsibility”. Then he swings back with a “people power” election. In the blue corner, Boris Johnson fighting for the ordinary punter who just wants Brexit done, who can’t abide the hurdles being thrown in his way by Parliament and the courts. The more they throw at him, the more ammunition he has to turn around and say “see, I’m the only one who really wants to sort this out. Vote for me, get it done”. And, goes the theory, they do. In droves.

Johnson’s loss in the Supreme Court might not budge the opinion polls, because they’re set by Brexit. Remainers will rejoice, but they were already Remainers. Leavers will curse, but not lose faith.
