A Tamil family fighting deportation has been granted a 24-hour lifeline by the Federal Court. 9News

An hours-long hearing in Melbourne on Wednesday failed to reach a resolution in the high-profile case of Priya and Nades Murugappan and their daughters Tharunicaa, two, and Kopika, four, who are being held in detention on Christmas Island awaiting the court's ruling.

The court was earlier told Tharunicaa was legally entitled to make a visa application after "the bar was lifted" in a period between July and August 2017, with two-year-old meeting the criteria allowing her to her to apply for a protection visa.

Hate to say it but they shouldn’t have lied in their applications!

9NewsPerth Why another 24 hrs Just deport them and apply lawfully like many other migrants have, who are just as hard working.

It really be best if they were sent home, best for the family too. Follow the rules, maybe try again later. Morrison and team have this one spot on. Goodluck to the family.

FFS make this madness end and stop wasting tax payers money. Just deport them already!
