Durban - Human rights lawyer and former Public Protector Professor Thuli Madonsela will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal as part of its spring graduation ceremonies at the Westville Campus next week.
The Chancellor of UKZN, Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, will confer on Madonsela an Honorary Doctor of Law degree on September 12 at 10am. Madonsela is being recognised for her outstanding contribution to the betterment of South African society. The university will confer degrees on 1977 graduands, 60% percent of whom are women. Three students have completed their studies summa cum laude and 30 cum laude. In all there are 1 007 undergraduate and 970 postgraduate degrees. There are 555 masters and 234 doctoral students, while 186 of the graduands are international students.
A total of 875 degrees will be conferred in the College of Humanities, 584 in the College of Law and Management Studies, 315 in the College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science, and 203 in the College of Health Sciences.
