A Galway businessman has been told he will go to prison if he doesn't fulfill a court order to legally dispose of used cars due for scrappage.

Al Hayes of Churchill, Ballyshrule, Ballinasloe, Co Galway has been prosecuted by Galway County Council, for failing to comply with Section 55 of the 1996 Waste Management Act.

Mr Hayes appeared before Judge James Faughnan at Ballinasloe District Court today to tell the court that he had cleared one field and was engaging a dismantling firm to finish the rest of the site.
