The bill will return to the Commons on Monday to consider any amendments before passing into law.

Around 10:30am Leader of the Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg will give a business statement to the House. At about 5pm the High Court will give its judgement on a bid to stop the suspension of parliament. The withdrawal of government opposition to the bill suggests Mr Johnson will return to the Commons next week to try for a second time to trigger a general election.

His preferred date for that would be 15 October, however a labour source has told Sky News' Lewis Goodall that virtually every faction of the Parliamentary Labour Party was united on an election only after 31 October.Mr Johnson was defeated in his first attempt on Wednesday when he failed to secure the backing of the two thirds of MPs needed under the terms of the Fixed Parliament Act to fire the starting gun on a national poll.

Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the SNP have all said they would back a snap election once the legislation trying to delay no-deal next month becomes law.

This has taken away Boris Johnson’s Leverage with the EU we now are at their Mersey. We don’t need a peoples vote until we have acted on the result of the referendum we should leave on the 31st October not beg for a further extension the the EU will set This is costing billions.

All systems go for a GE. Tories will campaign on the Benn no deal law being repealed

In my humble, non UK resident opinion..this is all horse 💩! The will of the people are being ignored! At least the ones who voted for Brexit over 3 years ago! Referendums obviously mean nothing to MPs or the Lords. Nothing the people can do about this sham! Sad. BrexitVote

You mean Emperor Cummings backed down (after his hangover cleared from the previous night's bender)
