Deanne Julie Mobbs claimed she'd fallen on hard times after sending $200,000 to someone she'd met on Facebook Messenger.

A woman left homeless after falling for an online money scam has told a court she was acting "out of necessity" when she stole more than $2,000 worth brand-name clothing from a Myer store in Wollongong's south.

Court documents said Mobbs visited the Review women's clothing section in Myer at Shellharbour twice in the first two weeks of March and stole more than $1,000 worth of clothing each time, concealing the items in a second handbag she'd been carrying. She made a third attempt but was stopped by security staff and left the store empty handed.
