MORNING BRIEIFING: The four Australians accused of taking part in a pro-independence demonstration in Indonesia arrive back home, while a Sydney gynaecologist who allegedly sexually assaulted a patient over a number of years will front court today.

A machinery operator spent the night in hospital last night after a fire broke out on Sydney's upper north shore at a roadwork site.

The blaze in Lindfield started after a milling machine ruptured a gas main while removing bitumen from the roadway. The operator of the machine was taken to hospital with injuries after jumping from the cabin when the fire began.NSW Labor leader Jodi McKay says she would be happy to sit down with the Premier and work out a bipartisan approach to cracking down on illegal donations that have plagued both sides of politics.

Ms McKay told ABC Radio Sydney she continued to be shocked and"utterly dismayed" at evidence emerging from the corruption watchdog's inquiry into the Labor Party, but it was an issue affecting the Liberal Party too. Prominent liberal figure Kathryn Greiner agreed, and said she felt for the new Labor Leader who had been through a"baptism of fire".

"Quite frankly if I was Gladys Berejiklian I'd be tapping on Jodi's door saying, 'Come and have a cup and you bring your president and I'll bring my president and we have got to fix this once and for all'," she said.
