The Liberals insist that Justin Trudeau can be a good Catholic while supporting abortion rights, but Scheer can’t be allowed to let his own faith go unquestioned

Justin Trudeau is often tripped up by his own words. The latest example is his attempt to portray Andrew Scheer as unsuited to govern a country in which women are part of the population.

Scheer said his policy would be the same as the last Conservative government: men and women elected by voters to represent them would be free to express their views on same-sex marriage or abortion, but the government would prevent any effort to introduce legislation. He was categorical in explaining himself.

Media outlets friendly to the Liberals weren’t about to let the matter die, quickly shifting to questioning Scheer’s personal views rather than the policies he would follow. The CBC whipped up two columns, Vassy Kapelos noting that the Tory leader hadn’t explained “what he actually thinks — personally,” a point echoed by recent Trudeau biographer Aaron Wherry in a piece headlined: “Canadians can be forgiven for being puzzled about what the Conservative leader really thinks.

“My own credo is completely consistent with that, and I’ll defend my own faith and my own values to the utmost extent,” Trudeau said. Numerous Liberal prime ministers have been members of the Catholic faith, yet have managed to avoid treating the country as an offshoot of the Vatican Liberals have been trying to exploit abortion for political gain at least since then-prime minister Paul Martin’s campaign ads suggested Stephen Harper would cruelly block women from ending their pregnancies. Harper had nine years to act on the issue and, as he promised, did nothing of the sort.

He can have his view but I just do not want anti abortion laws in Canada.

National Post goes for maximum hypocrisy by referring to themselves as a reliable news source. /opinion Like how that works?

If JustinTrudeau or AndrewScheer picked their noses which one of them do you think would eat the bugger?...... I say Justin eats it he’s more the adventurous type.

I am going to vote for Scheer. Those that don't are voting for corruption and debt, fools all of them.

And Scheer shares false news stories. Both parties are dining at the same table and I will be parking my vote elsewhere.

VoteNo AndrewScheer JustSayNo VoteNo Tories JustSayNo VoteNo JustinTrudeau JustSayNo VoteNo Grits JustSayNo Make these 2 parties Opposition Parties from now on!!

I'll vote for Scheer, NOT!

CLEARLY both parties need to go. Andrew just fabricated yet ANOTHER false story trying to add fear to Canadians and pretending he’s going to be the superhero to stop it. 🙄

OK, go ahead and pin AndrewScheer down, will he pass a law to make male contraception mandatory & tax the vast business wealth of the Catholic Church? elxn43

Fantastic Article. Thank you for writing it.

Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess the Liberals must be nervous. No shocker CBC keeps on this story they were one of the benefactors of our PM’s 600,000,000 infusion of cash to news media

Well, let’s not forget that it was Scheer who spouted a public rampage on marriage in the House of Commons under Harper’s watch which many of us Canadians don’t want to hear or see again from anyone

This is what happens when you don’t assume your say! canpoli

Lol must have weight if you and your masters are scared enough to print this junk.

TerryGlavin Except it is all based on what Sneer has actually said

Exactly

As opposed to no hypocrisy from the Conservatives and their attacks Try not to be so biased.

Such a non issue, as the Cpc already stated they’re not going to change any law regarding abortion or woman’s rights. Just a smoke screen liberals throwing up to divert attention from their poor ethics and terrible record. When you’re doing terrible, go on the offensive.

scheer said like trudeau said... he does not agree with abortion but he will not tell a woman what to do..

After 4 years Trudeau’s position on abortion could not be clearer. Scheer, beholden to social conservatives makes unconvincing statements he is forced into. Then Cons move on lying about Harper’s not muzzling scientists. In the hypocrisy race, Cons continue to pull ahead.

You can't blame this on anyone other than Scheer himself. He's left himself and his party wide open for all the serious criticism being directed at them. It is, after all, an election season.

Why not. They are the absolute experts on the topic. Keep trying to get your boy in. The real election meddling is from the mainstream media

Scheer's views about many things are troubling. We don't need the Libs to tell us what scheer has said out loud.

Kinda like Trudeau’s grabbing reporters by the butt and saying he’s a feminist

The Cons can’t be trusted period.

The Trudeau 'Liberals' have nothing to run on besides fearmongering and division If that fails they will find another Alan Kurdi to exploit They are disgrace to the liberal_party and everything it ever stood for

National Post goes maximum hard right views at the behest of their American owners. This is election interference.

AndrewScheer and CPC_HQ only have themselves to blame for getting SNC off the front pages. My God does not take 8 days to answer.
