ALOR GAJAH (Bernama): A childcare centre operator was fined RM8, 000 by the magistrates' court here Thursday (Aug 15) for operating illegally at the SOCSO Rehabilitation Centre in Hang Tuah Jaya, near here, last May.

Magistrate Zaridah Y Abdul Jaafar meted out the sentence on Rozita Zainal Abidin, 33, after she pleaded guilty to the charge.

The woman was charged with running the Little Learning Child Care Centre without a licence at 6.30am on May 11. The offence framed under Section 6 of the Child Care Act 1984 provides for a maximum fine of RM10, 000 or up to two years' imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. According to the facts of the case, a police report was lodged after a child from the nursery was brought in unconscious to the Red Zone of Hospital Melaka at 7.16am, on May 11.

On checking, it was found that the childcare centre was not registered with State Social Welfare Department. - Bernama
