Experts say the Trump administration's latest change to federal immigration policy complicates and strains an already overburdened immigration process.

The Trump administration's latest change to federal immigration policy is expected to stop more immigrants from legally settling in the U.S. The new protocol formally rolls out Wednesday. Here's what you need to know about it.Immigration authorities will assess whether an immigrant might qualify for public assistance programs in the future. The administration has expanded the definition of those public benefit programs to include Medicaid and food stamps.

Otherwise, the rule applies to people looking to come into the U.S. legally, as well as people who have already entered the country legally but are applying to become permanent residents. In our survey experiment, we found that when undocumented immigrants are told about the proposed #PublicCharge rule, they are significantly less likely to get emergency healthcare services when needed 5With the addition of food stamps as a disqualifying factor on applications, advocates worry about disadvantaged immigrants not having access to basic food.

"It's going to really slow things down," said Jeffrey Gorsky, a senior immigration attorney at Berry Appleman & Leiden and former chief legal adviser for visas at the U.S. State Department. "This vile rule is the Trump Administration's latest attack on families and lower income communities of color," California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in a statement."We will not stand idly by while this Administration targets programs that children and families across our state rely upon."

It's not a new rule, it's been on the book for decades. The last 3 presidents ignored it.

Nonsense

It's a classic Republican tactic to make government malfunction on purpose, so that they can campaign on 'fixing' it later. They do it literally every single election.

its been the immigration rules for decades so stop acting like its new

ABC is quickly becoming MSNBC. FakeNewsMedia

“Experts” Stop claiming to be unbiased, ABC. It’s obvious what side you’re on.

How can they bring in changes to fed. Immigration policy, when they say they are out for holidays so they cant bring in changes to back ground checks.

But it makes perfect sense. Why let people come who will only add to the burden of the country? If you can't show you have a trade where you can pay for you and your family, you should be allowed to simply apply for public assistance. That means current Americans are paying.

Social Security might run out in 30 years The millions of people that have broken into America illegally, they are going to want Social Security There is not enough money in Social Security to provide for illegal immigrants Illegal Immigration creates all kind of problems.
