Tensions high as HK protesters appear in court

PRO-DEMOCRACY protesters in Hong Kong who were charged with rioting appeared in court today, setting the stage for further unrest in a weeks-long crisis that has rocked the global financial hub. The announcement that 44 people had been charged with rioting – an offence that carries a jail term of up to 10 years – immediately triggered another round of clashes late last night between police and protesters.
