The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha, as the authentic governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2019 general election.
The appeal, heard by a panel of five Justices of the Supreme Court, presided over by Hon. Justice G. Okoro, held that the allegations of fraud and over voting pleaded by the appellant were not proved. In its judgement, the Court also awarded costs of N200, 000.00 against the appellant in favour of Ihedioha and the PDP.Anyanwu had approached the Court seeking to nullify the victory of Ihedioha on the allegations of over-voting and thuggery, which he alleged, swayed the polls against him and that he be declared as the authentic winner of the primary election.
While Senator Anyanwu rejected the result of the primary election, five other aspirants accepted the outcome of the exercise.
