Found if you went to some places UK visitors were giving them as tips unfortunately for the recipient banks in these countries did not take them as coins were the easiest to counterfeit. So you would find people on dock sides trying to sell them.

Living in Canada, but at one point making the trip across the pond twice a month, I accumulated a few of these that are in my drawer. I also had a pair of cuff links made from my cache which always get compliments when I wear them.
