The corruption trial of Datuk Seri Najib Razak involving RM42mil in SRC International Sdn Bhd funds has been vacated for the day after one of his lawyers fell ill.
Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali was informed by defence counsel Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohamad that co-counsel Harvinderjit Singh was sick. The court was also told that lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had other cases to attend to at a different High Court. "On that basis, we humbly seek for today to be vacated and we can proceed with the trial tomorrow as scheduled," Wan Aizuddin said on Wednesday .
Ad hoc prosecutor Datuk V. Sithambaram told the court that the prosecution wanted to proceed with the hearing but nothing could be done if the lawyer was sick.The prosecution did not call other witnesses as they were given very short notice.Justice Mohd Nazlan allowed the adjournment for today and its replacement date on Aug 9.Harvinderjit was expected to continue his cross-examination on witness Joanna Yu, who was Najib's former relationship manager at AmBank Group.
