.ljayes: Towns have been in drought for a number of years, why was this so urgent to do this week? D_LittleproudMP: We’ve invested $1.9b in this. This is the same bill that we introduced in October last year & Labor voted against it. MORE: firstedition

The Coalition’s future drought fund has cleared its first hurdle and has passed the House of Representatives with Labor's support.

Anthony Albanese said Labor won't stand in the way of the legislation but criticised the government for forcing a vote on the bill before it was considered by the Opposition caucus. The government argued it needed to force a vote on the $3.9 billion fund on Monday because it was an urgent priority. With Labor supporting the bill in the lower house, it has all but confirmed the fund will pass through the Senate with bipartisan support.

ljayes D_LittleproudMP How are the water rorts going Davey? Any more invisible water buying? Have we worked out who got the $80m of taxpayers money? Are you just ignoring it, hoping everyone will forget? Barnaby & Angus can't hide forever.... It will all come crashing down...

susanmcginnoam ljayes D_LittleproudMP I’d like some of the money spent on competition in the market and a fair market for all. Anti dumping laws. Etc etc. We used to be able to make money between droughts to prepare for the next one. Not now!

ljayes D_LittleproudMP “U guys in the city’s are just catching up to us on climate change”. Have you heard of your friend and former (again wannabe) leader Barnaby Joyce?

ljayes D_LittleproudMP Because TurnbullMalcolm isn’t the leader By the way Australia is 2 Billion Acres and spans 4000km between the Indian and Pacific Oceans and 3500km between Torres Straight and Bass Straight Odds are there will be a drought in someplace at any given time auspol AlanJones

ljayes D_LittleproudMP David. This fund looks like a slush fund for pork barrelling to most. Where is the strategy behind it? What do you want it to achieve? All most see is CMGs, RDCs and Agri-political groups continuing to waste money on dumb projects
