PETALING JAYA: A Kuala Kubu Baru Sessions Court judge has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC here over alleged corruption involving the release of illegal immigrants.

"The arrest was made in connection with the previous action against a lawyer, deputy public prosecutor and several police personnel over the case.

"The investigation into the case is linked to the detention of illegal immigrants for the purpose of seeking payment for their release," she said in a statement.On July 20, six police officers from the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters as well as the lawyer and deputy DPP were detained by the MACC to assist with investigations into the case.

Earlier, Bernama reported that the remand order against the lawyer DPP over alleged corruption involving the release of illegal immigrants has been extended for two days. "I can only confirm that the remand of a lawyer and a deputy DPP has been extended, while the six policemen who were detained have been released," MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki told reporters after the opening a transparency workshop here.
