A 44-year-old prosecutor is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court for allegedly promising to quash a case in the family court in exchange for a R10,000 payment.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said the man was arrested on Tuesday during a sting operation. “The victim alleged that he received a call from a man who identified himself as the district prosecutor who dealt with his case in court. The caller informed him that he can cancel the case if he can give him R10,000. An operation was initiated after the matter was reported to the anti-corruption unit,” said Masondo.
“Police pounced on the district prosecutor at the Johannesburg Family Court after he accepted R5,000 from the complainant. He was arrested while in possession of the cash.”
That should be LIFE in jail.
