Media executives from NewsCorp, Nine and the ABC have called on the government to urgently overhaul national security and freedom of information laws to protect press freedom.

The Press Club address was called following federal police investigations into two national security stories. Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he is open to considering changes to the law, but says he will proceed calmly and soberly. Mr Morrison says he will consider a parliamentary inquiry into the issue.
