NDLEA decries prevalent use of illicit drugs among farmers, herdsmen in Abuja

NDLEA Chairman, Col. Muhammed Abdallah said the sad development has a deeper negative impact on the future of the country as it often diminished the productivity of the users of the illicit drugs, which invariably negatively affected their health and life span.

Represented by Victoria Egbase, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, Director, Assets and Financial Investigation, the Chairman said “Our decision to embrace you as a target group is for the simple fact that you constitute a larger percentage of the population, coupled with the fact that the food security of the nation rests squarely on the shoulder of farmers. We need to create a critical mass from the farmers and hunters by increasing their stake in the Drug-Free Nigeria Project.

He also explained that the targeted audience of hunters, farmers and herdsmen by NDLEA was not a coincidence, saying, “The programme is therefore intended to bring hunters and farmers to speed on the catastrophic consequences of drugs in the language they can understand. On why the campaign was taken to the rural community of Abaji, Abdallah said, “We have decided to use this year’s commemoration to improve our outreach to the clearly identified but often forgotten target groups such as farmers and hunters”.
