He was referring to a statement by Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador, who discovered there were 67 associations registered under the Royal Malaysian Police name – many of these businesses established under the Koperasi Polis Diraja Malaysia Berhad , a cooperative society.
The Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism , in a statement on Friday said this would give rise to possible conflict of interest issues. This followed Muhyiddin said if corruption were to be uncovered in any cooperative, it would be brought to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for investigation and would be punishable under the law – as any other organisation.
"It is not proper to make random accusations. I think cooperatives should be free to operate if is not wrong," he told reporters during the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia raya open house at the Pesta Site in Sungai Nibong on Friday ."This is normal for cooperatives and not just for the police. It is the same for the army, government officers and individuals.He added that cooperatives are formed to help its members and the law will regulate them.
