It is lot more than dying with dignity, as its proponents claim, and will radically change the way policy makers treat the old, the vulnerable and the sick… MORE: Credlin

Sky News host Peta Credlin says euthanasia is ‘more than dying with dignity’, as its ‘proponents’ claim, and will ‘radically change’ the way policymakers treat the old, vulnerable and sick. Voluntary assisted dying is now legal in Victoria and terminally ill Victorians will have the power to end their life through landmark euthanasia laws.

Ms Credlin says ‘deep down’, modern society is ‘in revolt’ against the reality that ‘life is often hard’, with disappointment, failure, sickness and death. She says there is ‘a world of difference’ between keeping alive someone who would otherwise be dead; and killing someone who would otherwise be alive.

Given the indifference and scorn towards the elderly, vulnerable and ill that the LNP have demonstrated in the past I can’t see them doing anything different

Better to run em over with your car hey Credlin?

So if the sick do not come under the guidlines of DMS 5, WHERE ALL human behaviour is brought down too a drug solution ,we just kill them! Ooops euthanize, sounds so much better. Than calling it for what it is.

Oh look a Sky News drongo just like Little Kenny thinking this is radical! Some of those proponents are people that are dying and in terrible pain. A baseless opinion. But it’s Sky, the people who think the world is flat & climate change isn’t real cause it’s really cold now.

Just winding up her audience. Draft legislation presented, public submissions made, debate in Parliament and a vote. Her audience has to feel angry and resentful about Labor/progressives, and today its the turn of evil Andrew's government in Victoria. Its the Sky business model

Obviously you don't know much. The legislation provides an option for an individual to make a very personal decision. You have no right to make a sweeping statement about how the old, vulnerable & sick will be treated. You are not a policy maker, or health care professional.

The LNP and their apologists in Australia import everything from the Republicans in the USA. Whats next? Death panels?

Pro Choice.

Oh really? Credlin auspol

Convicted drunk driver Peta Credlin suddenly concerned about other people’s lives. Lol *glug glug glug* 🔥🚗🍷🍷🍷🍷

As someone who has actually cared for dying people, I can tell you, radially changing the way policy makers treat the old, vulnerable and sick is a good thing. This is about personal choice. If you don't want to access VAD, don't. DyingWithDignity VoluntaryAssistedDying

The comments here are seriously something . Don’t want it don’t use it.

She is a moron. And anyone who thinks it’s about turning off life support is also a moron. It’s about people who are in pain and have decided they would like to humanely end their pain because they have a terminal illness that will see them die anyway in the near future .

You are a cruel person. Human dignity to the last.

Absolutely not true.

Once again, as usual a sensible reasoned commentary by an intelligent woman. Well done, Peta. Most people wouldn’t have a clue as to the intricacies of this Law. Or care until it affects them.

I look forward to dying with dignity. Hopefully without having to use the law but it’s a great step that should I need it it there.

Giving people the option to be lethally euthanised is not the same as telling them to shuffle off. There's no push for them to do it. It's up to them.

About time we had a sensible approach to this problem.

Probably,it is a public/private hospital war made easy through legislation. If you want to die come to a public hospital ,or else find a ‘Mercy Catholic Hospital System’. Mother Teresa’s Charity take over the poor to die in the Sisters arms, because they cannot afford treatment .

Take away the fear and loathing from Sky ‘news’ and there’s actually nothing left.

Sounds good

It won’t be as ‘dignified’ as they make out. It’s also a very slippery slope. The Government should be putting a lot of money into palliative care instead.

Just like SSM, if you don’t want euthanasia, you don’t have to have it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

What an incredibly evil woman.

Yes and the continent will be flooded next week due to rising C02 levels. Some people accept death as a normal end to a life and prefer not to suffer. If you don’t like it, opt to lie in a coma in palliative care.

This government is leaving the old, the vulnerable to the mercy of the free market. How's that working out? My hatred for this government and its bellowing media runs soooooo deep.

It’s my choice. It’s my right. So get fecked.

arrant nonsense

It's humane, that's why you oppose it.

Cool! I nominate Rupert. Oh, wait - he's not an Australia taxpayer...

'It is lot more than dying with dignity'...no it's not.

We can see how you 'treat the old, the vulnerable and the sick…' Peta

It will. Instead of being killed off by the cruel & inhumane practices of profit-making Nursing Home Industry, people will actually be able to make their own choice on how they die - with dignity. As if you give a shit about the rights of the Elderly, or the terminally ill.😠💩

When was the last time the pension got cpi increases?

Oh what absolute garbage as usual. Thank god for Dan Andrews

Insofar as formulating policies for the old, sick and vulnerable care to tell us what you've done in the past?

It’s a terrible line to have crossed. This is how we care for the sick & dying. Once individuals reach the ‘kill zone’ time period of the law watch the pressure ratchet up. Theirs will be the duty to die.

On second thoughts any chance if trying it out on Peta. She is really in a bad way.

Funny how if we put down a sick or injured animal we’re classed as humane. However when the same applies to a human who may we’ll be suffering greatly we scorn any person with even a thought of the lessening the suffering idea.

I am also against Euthanasia. And how they can call it 'dying with dignity' is beyond me. So, people who bravely face their deaths and what comes there way, are not dying with dignity? That is insulting if you ask me.

When my Dad died from cancer he was given bigger and bigger doses of diamorphine to manage his pain. In all that time he never wanted to die! I know that because he said it.

Does Credlin have any credibility?

There is huge difference between general suicide and VAD. Palliative care has it place but it far from cure all. Once all other options have been exhausted then VAD is used. There are VAD navigators at the Peter Mac in Melbourne to help people make an informed decision.

Let's hope Credlin you don't ever suffer terminal cancer where the feeling of your organs being stabbed, stretched and squeezed every second and the pain is so much because each organ is slowly failing. Because in those moments an early death is more peaceful then wasting away.
