Lawyer, 70, ordered to pay R200k for flouting tax, VAT laws

Cape Town – A 70-year-old lawyer who had been charged with, among other things, a failure to submit tax returns, has been ordered to pay R200 000.

Muhammed Khan pleaded guilty and was convicted of numerous charges, including contravening the Income Tax Act by failing or neglecting to submit returns for 2007 up to 2013 timeously; and contravening VAT laws by failing or neglecting to submit his VAT 201 returns for April 2006 up to April 2015 timeously.
