The legislation gives the province’s immigration minister more authority over who receives permanent residency in the province

It also allows the government to cancel roughly 18,000 immigration applications — some from people who have waited in limbo for years as their files languished under the old system — meaning those applicants will have to start the process over again.Including the applicants’ families, the fates of some 50,000 people wishing to emigrate to Quebec were at stake.

Critics say the Coalition Avenir Quebec government has provided “no credible explanation” to eliminate the applications, but Premier Francois Legault said yesterday that Bill 9 is needed to better meet the needs of Quebec’s labour market. Before breaking for the summer, the legislature is slated to continue sitting today to debate Bill 21, controversial secularism legislation that would ban public servants including teachers, police officers, Crown prosecutors and prison guards from wearing religious symbols on the job.

As I said Québec is protecting their Province. No comment from Trudeau on latest developments either. Less votes for the Liberals this fall from down East.

Why does Quebec get special treatment, while we take in all the migrants, they get less? Quebec also gets the most government funding yet they contribute the least to canada

But but Quebec IS Canada 🙄

Politically difficult to use the notwithstanding clause when you only have a 37% popular vote mandate.

'Controversial' to the demented left and their narrative driven media. Logical everywhere else.

Not a peep from the federal government. Standard

My parents immigrated here from italy . They integrated into the Quebec, Canadian culture. They now speak 3 languages and we call Canada our home. We did not go to another country to change their way of life, we integrated. More people should try it rather than complain.

Nothing controversial. Christians have had to remove crosses in schools years ago to not affend others. This is the only way to put everyone on the same playing ground. People need to integrate and leave religion at home or places of worship .

God forbid Doug Ford did that lol - Racist, Biggot etc sad but they have the right idea, health and education across Canada are maxed out. We are to indebted to continue this non-sense spending

They finally did something right

Most Quebecers support this. Quebec is a French province, and if you want to be elected there, do as you are told. Tabarnaque! 💥

Hurrah!

Québec loves to keep ethnics out, perhaps Canada should keep the Québécois out. cdnpoli

It’s Quebec’s prerogative to manage their immigration needs, in fact all sovereign states do this. Trudeau has simply tried to politicize it to distract his poor performance and crimes like Obstruction of Justice...bravo Quebec!!!

Quebec gov't tries to normalize intolerance, hatred, supidity: ends up being stoopy, hated, and abnormal. Scap it all ism

Wow,

JustinTrudeau - as PM how can you allow this discrimination and racism? I demand you denounce this government and it’s bills. Will you stand up to Quebec or are you worried about federal votes? Think carefully, Canada is watching you. 👀

Good news...good job

A sad day

Nothing 'controversial' about it It is nothing more than a government policy which someone either supports or doesn't support

“I’m. Dakota/Métis Indian. Never been past manitoba east. Ojibway country. No interest. I see these Racists, whites, colonies passing laws over democracy 🤷🏾‍♂️🇨🇦👨🏽‍🎓☕️🤪Let the polarized Québécois whites Nationalists take control 👨🏽‍🎓🤷🏾‍♂️

Quebec government passes contraversial immigration bill in early-morning voteThe legislation gives the province’s immigration minister more authority over who receives permanent residency in the province 😞👎 Controversial. Ok? You are held to higher standard. The 18,000 immigrants stuck in a bureaucratic pipeline, some for five years, is ''a legacy of the Liberal government.'' It has created false hopes and disappointments for thousands of skilled immigrants who find themselves unemployed. - Fatima Houda-Pepin
