A "compulsive and committed paedophile" who pleaded guilty to killing a nine-year-old girl in Sydney's east now denies he was responsible for the death and will deny it "to his dying day", a court has been told.
He said Guider had shown no remorse, has never disclosed how Samantha died or the whereabouts of her body, and was found in an expert report to be at moderate to high risk of violent reoffending. Guider was also described in a report as having "obvious intelligence" and carrying out his "horrendous" crimes in a way that showed cunning.The state is seeking an Interim Detention Order, which would keep Guider behind bars temporarily ahead of a final hearing.
Speaking outside court, Samantha's mother Tess Knight said she was told several days ago about Guider's day release and would have appreciated being told earlier.In 2002, Guider told a psychiatrist that he couldn't remember much of Samantha's death or burial because he was heavily into drugs at the time. Asked how she died, he said it was through an overdose of the sleeping pill Normison, which he had given to child victims previously.
