Re-elected Iligan City lone district Rep. Frederick Siao is leaving it up to House leadership whether or not the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court's 90-day preventive suspension order will be implemented on him.

Re-elected Iligan City lone district Rep. Frederick Siao is leaving it up to House leadership whether or not the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court’s 90-day preventive suspension order will be implemented on him.“For now, the decision on how to deal with the Sandiganbayan preventive suspension order is with the House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who was given five days to respond to the court order to implement the suspension,” Siao said in a statement.

In particular, Siao, who at that time was a councilor, was charged for violating Section 3 of R.A. 3019 . “Since there is no necessity for my preventive suspension, the Sandiganbayan suspension order has no basis,” stressed Siao. The implementation of suspension orders from outside of Congress to sitting members of the legislature has always been a touchy matter. This is because congressmen and senators are careful not to create a precedent wherein a lawmaker gets punished by a body other than his or her chamber.
